Philosophy:
Andre Smith believes in the power of every voice and the importance of building a democracy that is open, inclusive, and transparent. His commitment stems from his great-grandmother, Carrie Williams, the first African American schoolteacher to file a lawsuit for equal rights for teachers and students in 1892. This historic achievement, recognized by President Barack Obama in 2015, paved the way for future generations,
embodying the spirit of justice and equality that Andre carries forward in his fight for a better future.
Andre Smith’s exemplary track record in community leadership, advocacy, and resilience makes him an ideal candidate for the school board. His unwavering dedication to improving the lives of his constituents through education, safety, and equality underscores his suitability for the role of 2nd District Cook County Commissioner. Andre’s commitment to justice, transparency, and inclusivity positions him as a transformative leader capable of driving meaningful change.
